Gainesville, FL (March 19, 2017) – The Stringer Performance Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals this weekend. Driver Clay Millican was very pleased with the hard work his team put in and the performance of the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio Top Fuel dragster.

“Overall I cannot gripe about anything this weekend. This car is really, really showing some consistency and that’s been our goal,”Millican said. “I mean this thing went down the track every single run with the exception of the first qualifying pass. We pretty much hit our numbers we were trying to run every time.”

Millican came into race day qualified No.8 with an elapsed time of 3.762 seconds at 320.74 mph. In Round 1 Clay faced Terry McMillen. Millican is 6 – 3 against McMillen in previous matchups. Millican had a very slim advantage off the starting line and kept the lead the entire race. He defeated Millican 3.741/315.42 to 5.345/135.21.

In Round two Millican came up against Tony Schumacher. Their reaction times were nearly identical: Millican .079 and Schumacher .077. The side-by-side race continued all the way to the finish line, but Schumacher took the win light, 3.751/326.24 to 3.776/322.42.

“The way the team is making this car go down the race track, it’s going to turn into a lot of win lights this season. I mean we had one win light today then lost a really good race to Tony Schumacher second round,” said Millican. “Internally our goal has been to be 80 percent going down the race track. I think if you figure it up, we were 83 percent for the weekend going down the race track.”

The next race for the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio is the 2017 Toyota Nationals in Las Vegas on March 31 to April 2.
