Concord, NC (April 29, 2017) – Stringer Performance driver Clay Millican goes into race day as the No.1 qualifier in Top Fuel Dragster for the second week in a row. An elapsed time of 3.716 at 325.77 mph secured him the top spot at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals.

“We have an awesome team. All their hard work is paying off and everything is coming together. Grubby (crew chief David Grubnic) is really starting to get a handle on this car,” Millican said. “And the thing is, Grubby really doesn’t care about the number ones. All he says is ‘My goal is to get you a win.’ That’s all he talks about: getting that win. You don’t hear about the green hat, just the yellow one.”

Last weekend in Houston, Millican put the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio Top Fuel dragster in the top spot and drove to a semifinal finish. This is the seventh time in his career he has taken the No.1 qualifying spot.

“Two weeks in-a-row is kind of crazy; I’ve never done that before. I’ve been No.1 a few times, but never two in a row,” said Millican.

Millican has been racing in NHRA since 2004 and has eight final round appearances, but is yet to win an event. Millican believes the race format for the 4-Wide Nationals may bring him a victory.

“I’m a three round winner. In IHRA we had eight car fields with only three rounds and I won six championships over there,” Millican said. “Here in Charlotte day we only race three rounds, so this may be my Sunday.”
