McLeansboro, IL (May 4, 2017) – After two races with very warm weather, temperatures are expected to dip and be very cool at the Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals this weekend in Atlanta. This is welcome news to the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio team.

“I like going fast and this is ‘go fast weather.’ After the past few races though, I think we’ve proved we can get our dragster down the track in any temperature. We can adapt to changing conditions,” Millican said.

Because of this cold front, NHRA has changed the professional qualifying schedule for Friday. Everything has been pushed up by two hours and Millican agrees with that decision.

“I think NHRA did the right thing by changing tomorrow’s schedule. I’m hearing temperatures are supposed to be in the in the 40’s tomorrow night,” said Millican. “While us racers like cool weather, these temperatures cross the line and can be dangerous; it causes track conditions that will not do you any favors.”

The Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio Top Fuel team will also have a big crowd of family and friends on hand to cheer them on this weekend. One of those people is Brad Akins, owner of nearby Akins Ford Jeep dealership. He is the one responsible for putting Doug Stringer on the path of becoming a race team owner.

“I’m excited to have Brad Akins coming out to join us this Saturday,” said Stringer Performance President, Doug Stringer. “He gave me my original start in NASCAR as a team owner. Thanks to him, I also have this amazing Top Fuel team and driver as part of the Stringer Performance family.”
