Seattle, WA (August 6, 2017) – After a disappointing race last weekend, Clay Millican bounced back this week at the Northwest Nationals in Seattle. Millican drove the Parts Plus/Great Clips/University of Northwestern Ohio Top Fuel dragster to a semifinals finish in Seattle.
Millican came into race day qualified No. 4 with an elapsed time 3.766 at 318.39 mph. He took on No. 13 qualified Scott Palmer in Round One. Palmer had a very slight reaction time advantage, but Millican took the win 3.765/322.11 to 3.845/323.12. This 3.76 run, once again proved the consistency of the Parts Plus/Great Clips/UNOH dragster.
“Three, 3.76 runs in a row. We did it Q4, first round and second round. This thing was a bracket car,” Millican said. “What a good race car we’ve had all weekend and I think we have our car back up under us.”
With that first round win, Millican also clinched his spot in the 2017 NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship. He is currently in the seventh place position.
“This is the first time I’ve clinched my spot in the Countdown this soon. It really shows the progression of this team,” Millican said. “To do it with a couple races to go is a good thing. Now we can really concentrate on trying to push ourselves into the top five, which been our goal all year. So that’s what we’re trying to do right now because we are chasing Brittany Force and Doug Kalitta.”
In Round Two, Millican came up against Force. Millican took the win: 3.769/323.27 to 4.004/271.30. In the semifinals, Millican raced against Antron Brown. It was a close race to the end with Brown getting the win: 3.781/.060 to 3.794/318.32
Next up for the team is the Lucas Oil Nationals, August 17 – 20 in Brainerd, Minnesota.
